My first tattoo... A Life quote

I have never really been the tattoo type. Ink never did anything for me. Admittedly, seeing a bit of ink on a guy almost certainly added to that sex appeal but to actually consider getting my own bit of body art? Nah, never! But all that changed at the start of this year. Dont ask me what caused the change because I honestly could not tell you. All I know is the idea of getting a tattoo started becoming more and more attractive to me. I dabbled with different tattoo ideas (for ages). I looked at some really pretty designs and I was almost certain I was going to go with the Love Infinity tattoo, but that novelty soon wore off. I decide I wanted my 1st bit of ink to be something more personal, more meaningful, more original. I decided I was going to get a quote tattoo.

'Let go and let God'... There it was! That was going to be my 1st bit of ink and I decided I wanted the tattoo to be on my forearm. Some people did not understand the meaning and they told me it sounded incomplete and didn't quite make sense. Bottom line is that it made sense to me. Tattoos should be personal. 'Let go and let God' is a way of saying let go of anything in life that is hurting you, tearing you down, stressing you out, causing confusion and let God work his magic in your life and help to deal with the situation. It is true to literally everything and it's a motto I try to live by. One of the only ways to find true happiness is to learn to let go.

I had my 1st tattoo done with my boyfriend. He also got his 1st one done- also on his forearm, but his is inside whereas mine is on my outer arm. We went to Sacred Ink tattoo shop in Herne Hill, South London.

Here are the final results.

Sorry I left you..

Hello and errrrm... sorry? To say I have neglected my blog and my lovely readers in these past few months would be a major understatement so I wont even go there. I know it sounds like a very poor excuse to say that life got in the way of my good intentions to blog but it's the absolute truth. I found myself too busy and often not in the correct head space to write- so I didn't. How are you though? I hope life is treating you kind and if it's not, always keep in mind that things will  get better. You often have to go through the crap to really appreciate the blessings waiting for you on the other side.

So much has happened in these past 3 months- Let me try and summarise:

- I now have a lush boyfriend who I spend a lot of my time with :D
- One of the best colleagues you could ever be blessed to share an office with moved on and left a rather big hole in my work environment :'(
- I became of God Mother for the first time :D
- I finally got that 1st tattoo after what seems like an eternity of talking about it lol
- I jetted away to Cancun in Mexico to celebrate my friends 30th birthday for a week
- I am learning French

Annnnd, that's all I can think of for now...

I am going to write separate blog entries for these exciting events so you can see some really cool pictures too.

New music: Jhene Aiko- Everything Must Go

No newcomer to the scene, Jhene Aiko has been kickin around for quite some time. I downloaded her Sailing Soul(s) mixtape a while ago and absolutely loved every second of it. She has a gentle, warm and relaxing voice that just calms you.

The LA born and raised, Jhene Aiko, returns to the scene witha new track, entitled, “Everything Must Go.” Laid back and smooth, this one makes you think about life and the things we place value on. In the end... Everything must go!

Great track!

Bye Bye Braids

long hair with blunt fringe bangs

I have been transitioning from chemically treated hair to natural for close to 2 years now which has meant protective styling has become my new best friend. From weaves to braids to kinky twists, I have done a lot of alternating of late.

I get bored of my hair really quickly so I switched it up late last year with kinky twists, but then I realised that my real hair appears to grow a lot faster when it is in a weave. I guess the fact that my natural hair is all cornrowed, tucked away and protected (from harsh weather conditions and tension) helps it to grow. So I decided to welcome back the full head weave with blunt fringe/ bangs again.

Incase you are wondering, I still could not bring myself to fork out the ridiculous prices for the Remi/ Brazilian type hair, so I went with Sensationnel's Premium Plus. I purchased 2 packs, 1 x 14" (£31.99) and 1 x 12" (£27.99)

So far, I love it! Lets see how long this Premium Plus hair lasts!

Learning to find comfort in discomfort

smile when you are sad

How do we learn to find comfort in discomfort? It's basically like learning to be happy even when you feel sad. Learning to smile, even when things don't quite go your way. It's quite challenging at the best of times to be fair. No one wants to smile when they have had a crappy day at work and I am yet to meet someone who thinks it's joyful when they are receiving ridiculous charges for being overdrawn on their account. I guess the trick is to not let these circumstances consume you.

It's not our circumstances that steal our happiness, it's our attitude to those circumstances. Let that simmer for a second.....Think about it... It is so powerful and so true. Our happiness cannot be tied to circumstances as there will always be things that go wrong in our lives. You might have a problem now which is making you feel sad and low but the reality is that once that problem has passed, there will more than likely be another thing juuust around the corner that bothers you or gets you down. What will you do then? Let it make you sad and miserable again?

Bottom line is this...

Situations will always change and sad and hard times will always pass, but try not to allow these to steal your joy. We have to learn to find inner peace so we can learn to smile- even through the bullshit life often chucks at us. x

Black shoe swag

I haven't posted on here for what seems like forever. My blog has been well and truly neglected whilst I have been busy dealing with life. I can't lie, I needed a bit of me time, time away from it all, time to breathe. For my regular readers and enjoyers... I do apologise.

Anyway, what better way to come back than with some lush shoes for us to stare at, dribble over and go out and purchase (after all, it is pay day this week... yaaay!). I peeped the new arrivals in some of my fav high street stores and look at these beauts I came across in River Island and Topshop...

I am in serious LOVE with no.3

Beyonce is coming to London

Mrs Carter world tour beyonce

Music icon, Beyonce has announced she will be playing four gigs in London this year as part of her Mrs. Carter world tour. Queen B will be performing at The O2 on April 29th, April 30th, May 1st and May 3rd.

Tickets go on sale to the general public on February 23rd though O2 customers can get them 48 hours earlier. I am in no doubt that the tickets will sell out in a matter of minutes (especially after her incredible Super Bowl performance last night) so get in there early.

I have always wanted to see Beyonce live so I will be waiting patiently at my laptop the very second they go on sale!

Watch Beyonce and Destinys Child at Super Bowl

Beyonce outfit superbowl photoshoot

After the recent controversy over lip-syncing at Obama's Inauguration, there was some serious pressure for B to deliver at last night's Super Bowl. Throughout the whole of last week, excitement has been mounting for Beyonce's big performance during The Super Bowl half time show. This event is pretty much the most amount of exposure you can have in the music industry so it's kind of a big deal!

I tried ever so hard to stay awake to watch the Super Bowl live, but it ended up watching me as I slipped ever so comfortably into the land of nod. Instead, I ended up watching it online this morning. With only 12 minutes to work her magic, Mrs Carter, Joined by special guests, Destiny’s Child, proved why she is and will forever be considered one of the best to ever do it. What a legend!

She shimmied, hair flicked, and whined her way through a medley of some of her biggest songs including, Love On Top, Crazy In Love, End Of Time, Baby Boy, Bootylicious, Independent Women, Single Ladies and Halo.

Anyone who grew up on Destiny's Child's music like I did will appreciate how special the moment was. I was in awe.

No matter how many words I type into this blog post, I cannot sum up Beyonce's awesomeness! This woman is so incredible.
